San Carlos, originally known as Binalatongan, was founded as the capital of the ancient kingdom of Caboloan, which once flourished in what is now Pangasinan and nearby provinces.

A major revolt against Spanish rule was led by native leader Andres Malong, shaking the foundations of colonial authority in Pangasinan.

Juan dela Cruz Palaris led a widespread revolt against excessive Spanish tribute and forced labor, establishing an independent government in Binalatongan.

King Charles III of Spain ordered Binalatongan razed to the ground and renamed it San Carlos after himself, erasing the old name.

The City of San Carlos became a component city through Republic Act No. 4487, signed on June 19, 1965.

The Mango-Bamboo Festival was launched, celebrating San Carlos City as the "Bamboo Mango Capital of the North."

San Carlos City continued to grow as an agro-industrial center, known for its bamboo craft, mangoes, and vibrant local economy.
